Students can work in partner groups or as individuals. Demonstrate how to access Kahn Academy’s coordinate grid for review. Allow students to progress through the practice activity. Students will complete the review at their own pace and move to activity 2 as they demonstrate their knowledge of coordinate graphing. All students may not complete activity 2 depending on their knowledge and skill set of graphing coordinates.

Activity 1

Have students review graphing points on a cartesian graph using Kahn Academy’s points on a coordinate grid review. If students are struggling they can use the Kahn resources to further review the content.

Activity 2

Students should work through the three puzzles and determine the location and distance between animals in the Maritime Mystery. Students can self check or you can print the student materials in the supplementary resources and have them submit a printed copy.

Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
